Dili Conference 2016

Following the success of the 2014 conference, the Northern Territory Bar Association will be holding its 2016 conference in Dili, Timor Leste.

The conference commences with registration and drinks on Wednesday evening 13 July at the conference venue, the Timor Plaza Hotel, extends over Thursday, Friday and Saturday 14 to 16 July and finishes with the conference dinner on the evening of Saturday 16 July on the Timor Plaza’s stunning Sky Garden Terrace.

It will also have a social program as well as an accompanying guests program.


We are delighted to announce that the Hon Justice Stephen Gageler has kindly agreed to deliver the conference’s key note address.

In addition, distinguished speakers will be delivering seminars on issues Australia has in common with Timor Leste including

  • Judicial independence v Judicial accountability
  • Domestic and sexual violence against women
  • Youth justice
  • The development of independent legal professions in South East Asia
  • The Timor Gap and other regional maritime boundary issues
  • Regional opportunities for commercial arbitration
  • Native title rights and the environment
