Biography

When called to the Bar in early 2006, Bridie had already enjoyed success in an academic career in International Political Economy at the University of Sydney and the University of New South Wales.

Bridie was the associate to the Honourable Justice James L. B. Allsop, then a Justice of the Federal Court, subsequently the President of the Court of Appeal of New South Wales, and now the Chief Justice of the Federal Court of Australia.

Building the foundations of her career, Bridie began her legal journey as a barrister’s research assistant and solicitor at Freehills practising in Litigation and Intellectual Property. She was subsequently a lecturer at the Faculty of Law, University of Sydney, lecturing in Litigation and Evidence and Administrative Law.

Receiving her undergraduate education at the University of Sydney, with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours), Bridie majored in Government and English. As a post-graduate, Bridie completed her Masters of International Studies, where she was awarded first class honours and graduated first in the year. Bridie also there researched for two and half years, on scholarship, towards the degree of Doctorate of Philosophy in Economics.

Bridie has a keen interest in the politics of currency and completed her theses on the primacy of the US Dollar and the actualisation of the Euro.

Bridie attained her Bachelor of Laws from the University of New South Wales, passing with Honours, and is now completing her Masters of Laws, majoring in Maritime Law at the University of London, Queen Mary College.

Bridie is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

Bridie is passionately dedicated to education and currently lectures in Advocacy, Planning Law and Administrative Law at the Australian College of Law and in Legal Professional Responsibility at the University of Sydney.

Arbitration

Bridie is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a NSW Bar Association approved Arbitrator. She has been appointed to the District Court of New South Wales Arbitration Panel. She appears as counsel in both domestic and international arbitration, international commercial arbitration and investment treaty arbitrations.

Bridie brings her experience in international politics and as a specialist in advocacy and legal advice to both institutional and ad hoc arbitrations.

Bridie specialises in the areas of maritime law, international trade and transportation, insurance and reinsurance, oil and gas, energy, commodities, international finance and banking. Bridie has also worked on all forms of commercial and international disputes, including joint ventures, conflict of laws and jurisdiction disputes.

Bridie also brings her experience and specialisation in commercial, administrative and public law to domestic and international sports arbitration.

Bridie is willing to work with in-house legal counsel and departments, as well as clients located outside of Australia, and is available to draft legal opinions, advise in conference, draft pleadings and appear as an advocate at arbitrations.

Bridie will appear in arbitrations in Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, People’s Republic of China, Indonesia, India, United Arab Emirates, London and New York and other international seats.

While English is Bridie’s first language, she is also is conversationally adept in French and Swedish.
