Careeer

Peter was admitted as a solicitor in 1975 and 1982 changing rolls and as a barrister in 1979 and 1983 again changing rolls. He worked at Smithers Warren and Tobias (now DLA Piper component) as an articled clerk for 2 years 3 months then solicitor primarily doing commercial litigation. He worked extensively in Family Law when NSW and Federal Law ran concurrently together.

He is admitted as a Barrister in Queensland South Australia Victoria and the ACT.

He managed a branch solicitors office in Byron Bay until the Paul Keating recession we had to have led to a return to Sydney, the MVA section of the GIO then Industrial Accidents at John Einfeld and Co together with OH and S.

He returned to the Sydney Bar in 1983 where he remained except for stints as a Senior Crown in RAMSI for 2 years 3 months January 2005 to March 2007 and then Senior Crown Counsel and DPP in Tonga from March 2007 to March 2009. Both positions were AUSAID funded. He returned to Sydney and has been at the NSW Bar since his return in March 2009. He is also visiting Counsel in the Northern Territory and on the Territory Legal Aid Trial Panel.

He retired from Advocacy December 2020 but continued Criminal Appeal Advice Work until June 2021 when he completely retired.

Due to boredom he returned to the NSW Bar in late June 2023 and has been back in practice since primarily in Criminal Law and related civil proceedings plus generalist litigation appearing in a wide range of matters.

He has been a Rugby Referee, Referee Coach and Assessor for 17 years served as an Office Bearer for Local associations and has refereed in Laos, Cambodia Thailand Solomon Islands Tonga and the USA. Currently he has been assisting at Harlequins RFC the only City of Sydney multi Grade Club apart from Shute Shield Club Sydney University. His current intention is to referee Halligan Cup in Sydney (25 minute halves) 4th grade Division 3 Sub-Districts as well as a return to Referee Coaching and Assessing. He also has a connection with the “Stray Cats” RFC Club Darwin which will be further developed.
