The Northern Territory Bar Association congratulates Sonia Brownhill and Matthew Nathan on their appointment as Senior Counsel.

Sonia is an experienced advocate with over 20 years as a legal practitioner.  She practises primarily in civil and commercial law with an emphasis in property (including native title and Aboriginal land matters), administrative and public law, town planning, general contract law, negligence and personal injury.  Sonia has particular interests in statutory interpretation and constitutional law.

Sonia joined William Forster Chambers in February 2011.


 

Matthew is a Senior Crown Prosecutor with the Director of Public Prosecutions in the Northern Territory. He was admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2001 and worked with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in that State. He was appointed a Senior Crown Prosecutor in 2006. He came to the Northern Territory in 2008 where he took up a position as a Senior Crown Prosecutor. He appears as lead counsel in complex criminal matters including murder and serious sexual offence trials. He also appears regularly in the Court of Criminal Appeal. At present he is the Sexual Assault Senior Crown Prosecutor.
